How to Pay Your Federal Taxes Quickly and Easily

Paying taxes is never a fun task, so let's make the process as seamless and easy as possible. This article provides an overview of the ways to pay federal taxes for a wide variety of reasons.

Please note that all tax payments to the IRS are typically considered personal tax payments unless they are for a C-Corp, payroll taxes or other more rare taxes on S-Corporations and partnerships. Thus, if you are making payments associated with your income tax return, it is considered a personal tax payment even if you have business income.

Options for Payment

1. Pay via the new phone application - IRS2Go!

2. IRS Pay Website

The IRS accepts payments via bank draft or credit and debit card. If you select the bank draft option, we've included a quick instructional video below. Note that if you are making payments on an installment agreement for multiple tax years, then you can select any year that is in the installment agreement when applying your payment.

3. Snail Mail

If we prepared your taxes, then you may have payment vouchers in your portal. If you are mailing a payment by check, you MUST include a paper voucher with it to insure that it is applied appropriately. Please login to our client portal and check the Documents from Preparer section. If you don't see them, feel free to email us.

If you are not a client of ours, then you can use the paper vouchers at the end of publication 1040-ES.

**Note that as of November 18, 2020 we do not recommend sending in payments via snail mail as the IRS reportedly has 10 million pieces of unopened mail to sort through and thus your payment may not be recorded for months.**
