Meet The Team
Growing up working in the family business, Chad saw the many rewards and pressures of being a small business owner. This understanding, combined with his 15 years of experience from accounting clerk to Chief Financial Officer (CFO), make Chad uniquely qualified to help individuals and small businesses tackle the pressures of taxes, bookkeeping and business decisions so they can focus on the rewards.
Chad obtained a degree in Accounting and Economics from the University of Richmond and worked as the Controller at his family’s business. Seeking a new challenge, he joined a rapidly-growing company, Nite Ize, that grew from under 40 employees to over 200 during his 10-year tenure as Controller and then CFO. During this time, Chad learned how to quickly adapt to ever-changing circumstances and helped plan and manage growth strategies that also preserved long-term financial stability. His efficiency stood out as the accounting department only grew by two employees despite the incredible company-wide growth.
When Chad isn’t crunching numbers, he enjoys running, learning guitar, reading, and hiking with his wife Shannon.
After obtaining her degree in Economics and Philosophy from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Shannon worked in economic consulting at Analysis Group for five years. While there she worked on complex economic models and reports, with an emphasis on transfer pricing analyses for international tax clients. Following her desire to help others, she spent the next several years in senior care and personal nutrition consulting.
When her husband Chad decided to open Polaris, she couldn’t resist the opportunity to use her skills to help people with a big source of stress – taxes, bookkeeping, and business decisions. She jumped right in and completed the rigorous IRS examinations to become an Enrolled Agent. When Shannon isn't busy at work, she enjoys hiking with Chad, reading, running, and yoga.
The late Yoda
Former Head Tax Dog
Yoda was our 14-year-old labrador retriever that loved hikes, cold weather, gale force winds, eating as much food as she could, giving kisses and tax work! Well, she liked taking naps while we worked on taxes.
She passed away in early 2020, but lived life her life to the fullest until the very end.
Head Tax Dog
Chewie is the newest addition to the tax team joining us in October 2020. He's still waiting on all his vaccinations, but during his time in quarantine he's enjoying wedging himself into any nook and cranny he can find, getting puppy "zoomies," and as his name implies, chewing on everything he can get his teeth on.
Mail shredding is Chewie's main area of focus although he is trying to convince us to add a cord eating department. We are encouraging Chewie to get his EA license like us, which he has interpreted to mean Eating Aficionado.
